FAQs

Library Cards & Accounts
How do I get a PINES library card, and what are the costs for residents and non-residents?
PINES library cards are free for Georgia residents. Bring a government-issued photo ID with your current address. If your ID lacks your current address, bring it with paperwork showing your Georgia address (e.g., mail, lease). Children need a parent or guardian present to sign up. Acceptable IDs include a driver’s license, passport, US Military ID, matricula consular, or Georgia Weapons Carry License.

For non-residents, out-of-state cards cost $25 annually or $12.50 for a temporary card valid for 6 months.
What do I do if I've lost my library card?
Contact your local library as soon as you notice your card is missing, so our staff can mark your card temporarily inactive and make a notation on your account. If you locate the card, staff can reactivate it with proof of identity.

To have it replaced, you will need to provide your government-issued photo ID and proof of current address. You'll need to be prepared to pay in full any outstanding bills on your account, however, the replacement card is free.
How do I access my PINES account from home and obtain my PIN number?
You can access your PINES account from home by visiting gapines.org and clicking "My Account." Enter your library card number and PIN to log in and manage your account, including changing login information and password. Alternatively, you can use the free PINES app for iOS and Android.

To obtain your PIN, present your library card in person to a staff member. If you need to reset your PIN, provide library staff with your card barcode number, full name, date of birth, and either your address or phone number on record. If you registered with an email address, you can also request a password reset link on gapines.org.
How much are fines? How do I find out how much I owe?
Fines are $0.20 per day on most materials.

Youth print materials, and materials checked out using the PLAY card issued through some local county school systems, do not accrue overdue fines. Materials without fines still have a due date and patrons remain responsible for the cost of lost or damaged items.

State passes, Chromebooks, Launchpads, and similar items have larger fines.

Your bills are tracked on your library card account, which is accessible at gapines.org, or through the PINES free app for iOS and Android. You may also call your local library and provide your library card number to ask about your bills.
How many items can I check out at one time?
You may check out up to 50 items simultaneously on one regular library card, however, audiovisual materials (DVDs, audiobooks, etc.) are limited to 15 total at any given time.

Other types of library cards, such as temporary or digital only, may have different limitations due to the type or database accessed.
How long can materials be checked out, and can I renew them?
Most library materials can be borrowed for two weeks and renewed twice for another two weeks each time unless someone else has reserved them. Lucky Day books can be checked out for one week and renewed twice for a total of three weeks, but they can't be reserved. Items like state passes and electronics have different borrowing limits and renewal restrictions.
How can I request materials not available at my local library?
Your PINES library card allows you to borrow items from any PINES library in Georgia. To request a title, visit gapines.org, use the PINES app, or contact your library. If the item isn't in the PINES system, ask your local library to consider purchasing it. Wait times may vary based on popularity.

However, other resources offered through MGRL are coded to our library cards.
